Bible Lesson Art: SPIRIT

Spirit ArtBy Marjory Hawkins

About the Weekly Lesson Art:
As a Sunday School teacher, each week I pray about interesting ways to
present the stories and ideas in the Weekly Bible Lesson. The idea to make
art out of selected citations from the Bible lesson came to me recently as I was thinking about teaching the 5th-6th grade class. I wasn’t sure if any of them were reading the lesson on a regular basis, and thought if they could learn to love and appreciate individual citations, they might be more inclined to study  and love the entire lesson. The idea is to provide them with a template each week on drawing paper that they can paint (watercolor) and then fill in with a fine point marker with words, citations, thoughts on the upcoming week’s lesson. We bring them in the following Sunday to show what we each did with the page, and talk about what citations were selected
and why….which hopefully promotes a lively conversation about the Bible lesson.

Matters of Substance: Spiritual Understanding & Health

family_on_beach_639X251

Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees.
Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not:

Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.
Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing:

Isaiah 35: 3, 4 (to:), 5, 6 (to:)

Consciousness constructs a better body when faith in matter has been conquered.
Correct material belief by spiritual understanding, and Spirit will form you anew.

Science & Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 425, lines 23-26

These quotations come from the current Bible Lesson on “Substance.” This week’s Sunday services at the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston and branch churches worldwide will focus on this Lesson.

One aspect of true substance discussed in the Lesson is health and wholeness. The quotation from Science & Health provides insight into the Bible passage and elucidates why the healings related in the Bible were possible at that time and remain possible today.

How would these spiritual principles work now? Visit The First Church of Christ, Scientist website to read articles and watch videos by people speaking about their verified healings of physical ailments and other life difficulties.

Does He care?”  has been posed on www.TMCYouth.com and invites the public share to their answers, thoughts, and additional questions.

The Christian Science Monitor has ongoing coverage from a news perspective. But it also has several articles based on a Christian Science perspective.  From June 1st, “The oil spill and God’s finger” and from June 6th “A healing answer to the Gulf oil spill.”
