First Church of Christ, Scientist, Austin, 1309 Guadalupe Street, Austin, TX, 78701, 512-472-2356, was the first Christian Science church in Texas, organized in 1889 and chartered in 1902. It is one of the worldwide branches of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts. The Mother Church was organized in 1879 “to commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing.” (Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy).
Church and Sunday School meet at 11:00 AM.
Each week a unique subject is explored through readings from the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, the discoverer and founder of Christian Science.
Sunday School is open to all students up to the age of 20. They are familiarized with our textbooks, the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. They learn the Ten Commandments, the Beatitudes and the Lord’s Prayer. These teachings support their desire to feel God’s presence and to apply this understanding to any challenges.
